Making a house our home

There are so many little details that are always being updated that I keep wanting to wait to post photos of our home! However, it is such an epic time in our life that I guess I will start being brave posting the process even if it is far from being my ideal dream. I think that one day I will be glad to have the memories of the messy, long process to get our home to where we want it to be.
It has been 5 months already since we have moved into our new home sweet home by the beach in Jupiter, Fl. Before moving here, Dave and I spent a year blissfully living tiny in a teeny old trailer we parked in Vegas and San Diego. During that time we did not have any belongings in storage. When we moved into our 3 bedroom house, we moved in with a few boxes of stuff and a lot of updating to do to the home. Imagine all the things to buy to make this space livable! We even had to go buy a mattress for our bedroom the first night sleeping here.

The past 5 months living here have been wild. So many choices to make and things to buy! After living for a year in a tiny trailer that forced us to rarely shop since there was no where to put anything it has been a complete change in our lifestyle. I learned so many lessons about living better with less stuff so we certainly want to keep our home completely free of clutter and pointless items. We have become very familiar with the Home Depot and furniture stores in our town. Since we completely gutted and rebuilt the kitchen, we felt that we were still camping while the home was torn apart and we had no kitchen for about a month. For months our house with very little furniture felt cold and uninviting but lately it is starting to feel so cozy and finally like a home. How exciting it is to see this place all come together!

I love that every single thing that enters our home is something that we adore and has a purpose but it certainly has been a bit overwhelming as well. I also love that we picked out every single thing together because it makes the home really feel like a representation of our relationship and the aesthetic feels entirely our own.  We have big visions for this beach home of ours. I want our space to be elegant yet cozy and completely minimalist. We also want there to be a great deal of the outdoors inside with touches of natural materials in the design. Making a streamlined, minimalist white home also comfortable and livable is a big task! In a dream world, every single item would be pure white but I know that this isn't realistic. I use far too much coconut oil to make a simple white coach last longer than a day!

I truly can't wait to share the before and after photos once it is completed. There are many huge projects like adding on a "Florida room" and completely renovating the bathrooms that will have to wait a year or so but I am so happy all the major renovations we have made thus far have turned out well.

Picking out every little thing and not knowing how it will all look when it is put together can be daunting but you have to go with your gut. Thank goodness Dave is far better at making decisions than I am. For every little thing in the home there are thousands of things to decide. The look of cabinet pulls, the look of the faucet, bed choices, lamps, dining room table chairs, grout color, quilt thickness, tile length and width, chandelier choices, I could go on and on! Especially now with the Internet, there are literally countless choices for every little thing so oftentimes I just let him decide between a few of our joint favorites.
